Safe(r) Spaces Policy

Safe(r) Spaces and Accountability Information

The Yard Theatre adheres to a safe(r) space policy. This means we do not tolerate any forms of abuse or invasive behaviour. Any patrons made to feel unsafe will be prioritised in the space.

Accountability

We are all a part of making The Yard Theatre a welcoming and inspiring space. Through this information we hope to engage visitors in a culture of care and responsibility to ensure that everyone has a great visit.

As guests, employees and visiting performers or artists of The Yard Theatre we are all responsible for our behaviour and actions within the space. We are all accountable for how we speak or act and should consider at all times how those actions might be affecting other people around us.

Over consumption can never excuse negative behaviour. Contribute to a collective responsibility by being aware of your own limits & those around you – let’s look after each other. If you do find yourself in circumstances where you feel out of control/out of touch/worried about your health, you can talk to any member of our team. Your safety is our priority, please don’t hesitate to ask for help.

Zero Tolerance

People’s boundaries, backgrounds and beliefs are all different. What safety looks and feels like is entirely unique to every individual. Please treat everyone with respect and as equals; this is a venue that celebrates difference.

We have a zero tolerance towards any kind of aggressive or invasive behaviour; this includes any form of physical or verbal abuse directed towards anyone on The Yard’s premises.

Any discriminatory remarks, attitudes or behaviour towards anyone at The Yard Theatre are not acceptable.

Any individual who demonstrates this kind of behaviour means they are no longer a welcome visitor of The Yard Theatre and will be asked to leave.

In the event you are banned from The Yard, this could implicate further bans in the larger Queens Yard area as we work closely with neighbouring venues.

Support

Keep hydrated, take a break – water is available at the end of the bar.

If you need immediate support or assistance please find anyone wearing a PINK ARMBAND, we will treat the situation with the gravity it deserves.

If you would like to raise any issues or concerns, before or after an event then please email grace@theyardtheatre.co.uk
